Day 4 - New Jersey

Yesterday was the final day of Torch ins leading up to the Opening Ceremony. The day started in Princeton, followed by a ceremony at Special Olympics New Jersey, a magnificent training and administration centre. After breakfast, the Final leg team travelled across to Trenton Mercer Airport where they helped greet athletes arriving from all around the US into New Jersey during the Cessna Airflift. Two more Torch Runs - at the College of New Jersey and Rider University then took place, with many newly arrived athletes on hand to greet the Flame of Hope. The day concluded with the Team Party held at the beautiful Green Acres Country Club.

Day 3 - New Jersey

Yesterday commenced with breakfast at Rutgers University, the home of College Football for the entire team, before they again split into three routes to carry the Flame of Hope across Northern New Jersey. The three routes reformed at Arm & Hammer Park, Trenton in the early afternoon with a ceremony and Torch Run at the home of the Trenton Thunder baseball team before heading back to East Brunswick.

Day 2 - New Jersey

Yesterday was a busy day for the Torch Runners. Route 1 conducted 12 Torch Run events in Northern New Jersey, including a visit to the Corporate Headquarters of the Presenting Sponsor of the Final Leg Events, 9 Torch Run events on the Jersey Shores and 9 Torch Run events on the Pennsylvania and Camden Route.

Day 1 - New York City

Wednesday morning saw light rain and cloudy skies. All six Final Leg teams travelled from their base in East Brunswick into New York City to take the Flame of Hope to some very special places. First stop was Fox Studios in 48th Street, where the run was launched live on Fox & Friends. The Final Leg team then ran to Times Square where they were welcomed by the largest toy store in North America and presenting sponsor of the Final Leg - Toys’R’Us. This was followed by breakfast at Ellen’s Stardust Diner and then a visit to Chelsea Wharf for a sports report with Fox Sports.

The team then ran into the September 11 memorial site before moving on to Battery Park and a ferry ride to Liberty Island to visit the Statue of Liberty.

After returning to East Brunswick, the Final Leg team broke into three routes with teams going to Philadelphia and Wildwoods in preparation for day 2.

Torch Runners, Special Olympics Athletes and Final Leg Team Leaders from a total of 52 LETR Programs converged on the Final Leg Team Headquarters in East Brunswick, New Jersey yesterday. The Final Leg participants were kitted out with their running uniforms and met with their team members for the first time. A Team Welcome Dinner was held last night where the six Final Leg Teams and Support and Documentation Teams were introduced and the ‘getting to know you’ phase commenced.

With many of the runners travelling many hours to get here, it was then time to grab some sleep before the first day of running in New York City.
